Kumail's John Mayer story
He did it as a bit at Whiplash last night. Wow. A 7+ minute chunk of material that is outrageously good. It's such a compelling story that every one is on the edge of their seats. And then what he does with it is just gorgeous. Recreating the whole scene while bringing in perfect analogies and even milking huge laughs out of just repeating the name "John Mayer" over and over again. A perfectly crafted, Peanut Brittle-esque adventure. When he puts an album out, it's gotta be the closer. Feels like a career defining bit. Not because it involves a celeb but because it's that damn funny. Was awesome to see.

Totally agree. I saw him do it a night or two after it happened and it killed. Big time. Would like to see it now and how it's changed.
I'm sure it's not as polished as when he does it on stage, but Kumail told a really funny version of the story on Marc Maron's podcast a few weeks ago. It was an all around great interview as well.
Glad I happened to go to Sweet that night! And to think, I had originally planned to go to Punch Up Your Life, but they happened to be canceled that particular week.
I've read about this EVENT everywhere and heard Kumail talk about it on a few podcasts and can imagine how hilarious the bit must be, because just hearing him recount it candidly was insane.
Also, I don't know what it is about Kumail Nanjiani's repetition that WORKS SO WELL, but boy does it! His cheese bit is amazing, not only because of how funny the premise is, but also because he says "heroine" a million times.
I'd reallllly love to hear this John Mayer bit.
Audio only - probably not his final bit but pretty awesome. Awesome indeed.
